About the DepartmentThe Undergraduate Department of Mathematics offers General and Honours Degree Courses since 2000 and 2007 respectively. The Department has one Assistant Professor, 2 Guest Lecturers, and 1 Visiting Lecturer who strive hard to ensure that the students have a good grasp of the subject and get good grades in their examinations. Our stated Mission is to to inculcate in students the ability to apply mathematical and computational skills to model, formulate, and solve real-life problems. In addition to the teaching-learning process, the Department is also actively engaged in research in the field of Pure and Applied Mathematics, particularly in General Relativity & Cosmology and Topology & Functional Analysis. Several research papers have been published in leading international journals in these fields. Students also have the opportunity to undertake undergraduate research projects in various interdisciplinary areas. Besides, the Department regularly arranges Extension Lectures and Seminars, as well as Seminar Competitions for students. The students may take part in these activities and enrich their knowledge and gain insights about different topics which are not part of their curriculum. The students also prepare and display the annual Wall Magazine of the Department, “Eureka.” An Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics under West Bengal State University enables students to define mathematical concepts, calculate quantities, estimate solutions, solve problems, represent mathematical information, develop models, interpret data, explore systems, and communicate mathematical thoughts.
